Apocalypse Now Redux with Lima Lima

Talk about dissimilar formations! I don't think that we can top this one for some time to
come. These pictures were taken by our friend Lee Hogan (Aerial Shots by Lee) at 9 am
Sunday morning of the Chicago Air & Water Show. Tim Cherwin, the son of our team
leader Bill Cherwin, now flies the Apache 64-A for the U.S. Army Reserves, 8th Battalion
229th Aviation Regiment out of Fort Knox, KY. He got clearance from his commanding
officer to do this once in a lifetime shot. We actually did get closer than some of these
pictures suggest and I can tell you that watching a 48 foot diameter rotor blade starting
to slowly rise to your altitude gets your attention. This mission was thoroughly briefed
with all pilots, crews and photo planes. We must have been quite a site over Navy Pier
last August. Make sure to turn on the sound.
