As The Sun Sets In The West...
Our good friend, Tom Pappalardo, took this picture of the lead element in diamond
formation
taking
off from the Chicago-Gary Airport in August of 2005. Numbers 5 & 6 are just
lifting off
and will join the diamond making it a wedge. The team then climbs up to about
6000 feet and
starts a holding pattern five to ten miles South of the airport. Once it gets
really dark, we
start our night show by turning on all eighteen landing lights and pointing them
directly at
the crowd. Our night show lasts about twenty minutes and we make four or five
formation
changes to give the folks on the ground several different looks. We hope to be
able to shine
our lights in your eyes some evening this summer at an airshow near you.
