"SPLASH THREE!.........SPLASH FOUR"
On 8 July 1972, Brigadier General (then Captain) Steve Ritchie of the 555th TFS, leading a flight of four F-4 Phantoms, call sign "Paula", shot down two MIG-21s in one minute, twenty nine seconds. On 28 August 1972, he became the only USAF Pilot Ace of the Vietnam War and the only American pilot ever to down 5 MIG-21s. This scene is the initial turn of the 8 July action, as Ritchie and the lead MIG pass at a closure rate of more than 1,200 MPH. Within 47 seconds, the trailing MIG was going down in flames, and 42 seconds later his leader followed. It was just a minute and a half out of 800 hours in combat, spread over 339 missions and two combat tours, but the memory is as vivid 25 years later as it was that day.
This 25" x 16" (image size) limited edition art print is signed by artist Lou Drendel and by General Ritchie. It is the only painting in print and is offered for $295. See ordering information below.
